President Hu Jintao had a meeting with US President Barack Obama on the afternoon on March 26 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said the two presidents had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views on China-US relations and other issues of common interest and they reached a lot of consensus.

On the Syrian issue, President Hu stressed that China takes an objective and just position and a responsible attitude on the issue.

We have been working actively to promote talks and peace. We urge the Syrian government and relevant parties to put an immediate stop to violence, start dialogue, speed up reform, and actively support relevant mediation efforts aimed at seeking a political solution to the crisis, Hu pointed out.

China stands ready to stay in close communication with the United States and play a constructive role in resolving the current crisis at an early date, he added.
