Thai cabinet approves Chinese investment in dual-track rail

(ECNS) Updated: 2014-11-19 14:32

The Thai cabinet have approved a plan for China to invest in an 867-m dual-track rail, the Thai Premier said in Bangkok on Tuesday, according to Xinhua.

The rail project connecting northeast Thailand's Nong Khai province to Bangkok and eastern Rayong province will be developed through a government-to-government contract.

Thai Premier Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha told the press after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday that details of the cooperation would be handed to the legislature for review.

Local media said the premier might discuss cooperation with Japan on other rail projects during his visit there next month.

The route will use the 1.435-meter standard gauge, and trains will operate at speeds of 160 to 180 kilometers per hour, according to former reports.
