China's copyright industry significantly impacted the economy in 2024, generating an added value of 10.06 trillion yuan ($1.38 trillion), a 7.31 percent increase from the year previous, and accounting for 7.46 percent of the country's GDP, according to a recent research report.

Conducted by the China Academy of Press and Publication under the guidance of the National Copyright Administration, the report reveals that core copyright sectors, including film, television and software, reached 6.37 trillion yuan in value in 2024, marking a 7.43 percent growth from 2023.

The report underscores the increasing importance of the copyright industry in the national economy, with sectors such as software and information technology services, digital publishing, radio, television, online audiovisual content and film performing strongly.

In the period covered, the industry employed more than 15.89 million people in urban areas, representing 9.63 percent of China's total urban employment.

According to the report, trade within the copyright industry remains stable with positive momentum, and the export structure continues to improve.
