In the fight against climate change, industry experts from home and abroad have issued an urgent appeal to take advantage of the power of education to promote green concepts, build climate knowledge and drive tangible actions.

During the 2026 Shanghai Climate Week Climate Change Education Forum held at East China Normal University in Shanghai on Thursday, experts emphasized the evolving role of education.

Zhu Junwen, deputy Party chief of ECNU, said: "Global climate change is a severe challenge facing humanity, and education is a key force in addressing climate change. It is necessary to promote the extension of climate change education from knowledge dissemination to thinking reshaping and action transformation."

"ECNU uses its research platforms to deeply get involved in the field of climate change education, and the formulation of relevant international standards and international cooperation. It is currently collaborating with universities and research institutions from multiple countries to establish the 'BRICS+' joint laboratory for climate change education and green development."

"ECNU is willing to deepen cooperation with all parties, empower green transformation with the power of education, and contribute to sustainable development and the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity," he said.

Supakorn Pongbangpho, president of the University of Phayao in Thailand, said: "The core of climate change education is to cultivate students' green thinking. Only by combining modern technology with traditional community wisdom can we embark on a path of sustainable development."

Zou Rong, co-director of the executive committee of Shanghai Climate Week, said: "So far, the forum has reached a lot of achievements. We hope that all parties will continue to deepen cooperation and promote more practical results in climate change education."
