Forklift master turns world championship skills into classroom lessons
Using a forklift to flip coins, transport billiard balls, and open bottle caps are delicate tasks that look like a breeze when performed by Zhu Jiu'an, a teacher at the Changchun Technical University of Automobile in Changchun, Jilin province. Under his control, the forklift tines maneuver with precision, as if the multi-ton machine has been equipped with a pair of skillful hands.
In 2005, Zhu graduated from the university and began an internship at Changchun FAW International Logistics. He worked in various positions, including picking, sorting, delivery, and forklift operation.
He took his training seriously, often using his break time to practice skills. "After around five months, I could drive the forklift in a straight line, smoothly lift a cargo box with the forks, and place it steadily on the shelf," he said.
To achieve precise control, he practiced flipping coins with a diameter of only 2.5 centimeters for half a month and eventually could flip five in a row, becoming a top expert in the warehouse.
In 2006, he won first place in the company's inaugural "Champion Cup" forklift skills competition. The next year, he and his colleagues won the StaplerCup International Team Championship in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
