A 9,000-ton steel structural roof truss was lifted 13.5 meters into position at Shanghai East Railway Station on Thursday, marking a milestone in the project with construction now moving to metal roofing installation.
The 14-hour installation was the largest single roof section ever lifted at a Chinese railway station, covering 74,000 square meters, equivalent to 176 basketball courts.
The roof employs a double-curved spatial truss grid system. Upon completion, the entire roof structure will span 390 meters east-west and 335 meters north-south, covering a total area of 113,000 square meters through 119 diamond-shaped units.
